Obtaining information accurately and quickly is extremely important when it comes to comprehending current events. Although not all the sites I use are reliable, I use them to capture a sense of what is happening in our world today.
This is a great source for nightly news that recaps important events that have been collected throughout the day. Although most of the news is not worldly, David Muir does discuss important issues and current events happening outside of the United States. Keeping up with the coronavirus, the show is constantly bringing its viewers statistics, breaking records, and new technology to fight against the disease. Although this show does not spend much time on each subject, it does cover a wide variety of topics in only 30 minutes.
This is a local station for southeastern Connecticut that I enjoy using to keep up to date on news in my area. I mostly use this for watching the weather and if any accidents have been reported. Although they are on-air multiple times a day, I mostly watch in the morning before school or work. (This was also the news station that kids would watch to see if their school had a snow day.)
I like to use Snapchat for my entertainment news. The app gives people “the gist” of what has been happening in celebrity drama. It can explain, in a few small sentences, the details of what celebrities are up to, who cheated on who, and who’s backstabbing their partner. Although I don’t care too much about what is going on, my Snapchat is constantly trying to sell my eyes on their stories… and it's working. Although I do watch it, I would not rely on everything Snapchat tells its viewers. Its thumbnails are often deceiving and most of the information is just gossip and not cold hard facts.
Instagram, although just as reliable as Snapchat, is not as much celebrity gossip by more of politics and wellness. At least for me, the people I follow share information about COVID-19, Black Lives Matter moment, the 2020 Election, LGBTQ, and mental health. This is mostly to spread the word about facts in these topics to educate people who may not know much about important current subjects. I do not recommend this site for anything “life hack” related or celebrity news as well (unless posted by the celebrity).
This morning show is not for reporting the latest current events, but more of deep interviews and analysis of famous people and new innovations. It mostly focuses its stories in the performing arts. The show presents information at a slow pace, with only a few stories in an hour. It’s a show that gives people something to smile about, relieving stress and forget (for a moment) how messy the world can be.
